Branbán is the White Oracle. The game is derived from the old celtic Branduff as it was played by ancient Kings and Queens of Ireland.
Branduff was a King of Leinster who craved the High Kingship and was willing to achieve this by virtually any means, fair or foul. Because he exemplifies the treacherous and ambitious nature of provincial Kings in their pursuit of High Kingship, his name became associated with the legendary game Branduff.
Every clan in Ireland aspired to the Kingship, certain provincial families (the O'Neills, O'Briens, Mc Murroughs and the O'Connors dominated the Hibernian Royal List.
On the Board the families are represented through Ireland’s provinces Leinster, Munster, Connaught & Ulster, the Hill of Tara in Mid being the aim of everyone’s desire.
This game draws on Celtic Cosmology and Druidic Tree-Lore. The winner is entitled to a reading of the White Oracle of Ogma, who invented the Ogham alphabet with it’s tree runes for magical and poetic purposes. He was one of the Tuatha de Danann who held the keys for the divinations of Runes.
